The Kern County Fair draws tens of thousands of people every fall. The Basque Block in Old Town Kern is home to some of the oldest and most distinctive restaurants in California. The Kern River runs right through the city with miles of trails alongside it. Concerts, markets, community gatherings, and live music keep the calendar busy year-round. Bakersfield tends to surprise people who actually show up.
