Bakersfield Events is a free, daily-updated calendar for Bakersfield and Kern County, covering concerts, markets, festivals, family activities, arts events, sports, community programs, and everything in between.

The city deserves a better front door.

Bakersfield is the birthplace of its own chapter in American music history. Merle Haggard and Buck Owens built the Bakersfield Sound here before the rest of the country caught on. The Kern River trails run through the middle of the city. A Basque food tradition dating back generations puts restaurants here in a category of their own. Farmers markets, neighborhood festivals, library events, rodeos, and live music that keeps going on a Tuesday round out a calendar that tends to surprise people. There is a lot happening here, though it has not always had the best front door. That is the gap this site tries to close.

Bakersfield Events is an independent, locally run site. It is not affiliated with any venue or ticket seller and is free to use. Reach the person behind it through the contact page. The column is where the editorial opinions live.

How it works

The calendar gathers listings from more than a hundred public sources every night: venue calendars, library and chamber-of-commerce schedules, ticketing pages, organizer feeds and community pages. Each listing is normalized (one time zone, one price format, one category set), checked against the others so the same show from three sources appears once, and dropped when it is not really an event or is not in our area. Cancellations the source announces are marked. Recurring programs get a single venue and series page rather than a page per date. Past events roll off automatically, and every listing shows when it was last checked and links to the organizer.

A note on accuracy

Event details come from public listings and can change. Dates shift, shows sell out, plans evolve. Always verify times and locations with the source before you head out.
