This entry-level hike begins at the Mill Creek OHV Trailhead, 1-1/2 miles east of Hwy 178 on Old Kern Canyon Road. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the trailhead by 10am. Time will be needed to sign-in and complete waivers. Likewise, the hike ends at approximately 1:30pm, so when you plan your day, you will need to account for the time it takes to get back to Bakersfield. In addition to wearing appropriate hiking shoes (MUST be close-toed!), bring sun protection, plenty of water, snacks and a lunch to enjoy at the creek. If you are coming from Bakersfield, give yourself an hour to get there. Take HWY 178 east up into the Kern River Canyon.
